To the entire DocuFamily,
As a follow-up to the official announcement today, I wanted to share this open letter with you to express my feelings of tremendous gratitude and honor to have served as the Chairman of this company for nearly a decade. I submitted my resignation from DocuSign’s Board of Directors effective January 1, 2019, which is my 10-year wedding anniversary and allows me to keep my longstanding promise to Metta to take a moment along the way to smell the roses. It has been a decade of deep friendship, intense work and pure pride.
When I joined as your Chairman in 2009, we had less than 50 employees. We were a lean, hungry and tight-knit team of entrepreneurs with a dream to create an epic company that was “Built-to-Last” and would be a force for good in the world. Simply put, we set out on a mission to change the way business is done and to simplify life for companies and people around the globe. Today, as I reflect on our journey and look at our 2,500 employees, 250 loyal Advisory Board members and the DocuSign Global Trust Network (with a whopping 400,000+ companies and over 300 million users in 188 countries), I am overjoyed by how far we have come and how much further DocuSign will go.
We have an exceptional organization, and I am deeply confident that this company under Dan’s leadership will continue to achieve greatness and give back meaningfully. Although I will step away at the end of the year, I will forever remain your biggest fan and truest friend.
As I sail off into the DocuSunset, I just want to thank you for three remarkable things we’ve accomplished as a team:
1) Building the DocuFamily: We are a legion of passionate employees, customers, Advisory Board Members, partners, investors, Board Members, alums and, of course, the Significants & DocuKids. There was no stopping our momentum with team rules such as: Develop a safe environment by always assuming positive intent; No idea is a bad idea (unless it’s the Chairman’s;) and Team Rule # 1 – The company with the best people wins.
All of this is founded on the conviction that diversity-of-thought is the secret sauce for building a high-performance team. What I have witnessed over these last 10 years gives me hope that the next generation will embrace that diversity-of-thought is the catalyst for genius.
2) Creating our Destiny: By challenging the status quo, dreaming big, being audacious disruptors and having a Built-to-Last mentality, we have created a new industry category and made ourselves the global standard. We have made DocuSign a verb, noun and perhaps an adverb (although I missed that day in school). Most importantly, we have built an open platform based upon best-in-class technology, innovation at scale, and a product that customers just love.
We will leave a legacy of transforming the world. One which will result in: increased GDP per capita, enhanced secure global commerce at light speed and a profound effect on the planet that will make our great grandchildren proud. By creating our own destiny, we have become Bridge Builders–between each other and to the future.
3) Paying it Forward: The mission of the DocuSign Impact Foundation is to transform people’s lives by transforming noble causes. It makes me proud to serve as the DocuSign Impact Foundation Chairman. I believe with all my heart that we are privileged to serve those in need and support all the causes we hold dear.
On my first day as CEO, I told you all, “The only constant will be change. Change is the most powerful word in any language, and without change, we don’t develop prosper or grow.” At the end of the day, it will always be about making a difference… a big difference, a little difference, but most importantly, a meaningful difference.
Together, we have built a family company where we can all look at “The Man/Woman in the Glass” and be proud of the good we have done and all the people we have mentored along the way.
On behalf of Metta and our five children, we thank you for sharing your families with ours. It has truly been a team sport from the beginning, and it most definitely has been a privilege to serve with you and build a company for the ages.
With much DocuLove,
Keith Krach | Chairman of the Board | DocuSign
